If this blog looks very strange to you just now, please bear with it. In my browser, Petrona seems to have lost all her formatting. I've opened a help ticket with Type Pad so I trust normal service will be resumed shortly.
Science editor who likes reading crime fiction
You are still readable though!
I also have an outstanding help request following the "upgrade" on the "compose" screen. Have you had the new compose screen yet? I find it impossible to insert links.
I know it takes time to get used to change, but as soon as I saw the new screen I hated it. It's now wider than the width of my posting column so I don't expect lining up will be easy. That functionality remains in my dreams however, as most of the buttons are greyed out for me.
Is it just me, or do you have the same, Maxine? (Or has your superb brain worked out the techy side way in advance of me, yet again!)

Hi Crime Fic. It's a bit frustrating, though...
I've been beta-testing for Typepad for a while, so I've got used to the new compose window, though I am not sure it's a great improvement. I haven't had any problems with the buttons greying out, though, so I hope the helpdesk answers you. They've had a lot of calls from me during the testing phase ;-)
As for my brain -- not much of it left these days, I'm afraid.

Looks like you're back!
I had a weird thing happen on one blog I maintain--suddenly the sidebars weren't showing up with the regular code. I opened a help ticket too but no help yet.

Weird, indeed, Debra. Tried "republishing"?

Even stranger, after a couple days of this, they started showing up again! But then another problem emerged: the last five posts on the blog (but not any earlier ones that I've seen) now don't have individual pages. Republishing them doesn't work, not even if I change the publication date. And new posts don't work. Another ticket with TypePad Help.
I'm thinking this may be connected to their recent changes on the site, though I don't know how. The other day, I know, they had a problem in which posts weren't showing up on blogs, though they *did* have individual pages.
Anyway, we'll see. This is a blog for someone else that I maintain by way of filthy lucre.

Debrah - I am having the same problem! Have you heard from Typepad regarding a fix; my help ticket is still unanswered.

Deb - if you haven't found the fix; here is what worked for me:
The problem was my Domain Mapping was not selected as Active for the domain that was pointing to my blog. Once I selected the Active checkbox (for some reason it was unselected) and repulished my web blog all my posts showed up again.
hope this helps.

Thanks, Somers.
Actually, the problem has resolved itself. Here's what seems to have happened:
1. The sidebars stopped showing up, for reasons I still don't understand.
2. Because they weren't showing up, I moved the sidebar code from the sidebar includes to the appropriate templates: main index, individual archives, etc.
3. Apparently, it's a problem to have tags in your individual archives--even if, as in this case, they're simply used to call up a list of recent posts (i.e., in the sidebar). So, the individual pages stopped working.
4. The problem of the sidebars not showing up under normal circumstances resolved itself.
5. I moved the code back to the way it was and now everything's working again.

All apart from a link to Mysteries in Paradise that used to be on one of your blog rolls? My spies tell me you had a good time at Crime Fest Maxine :-)
Posted by: Kerrie | 09 June 2008 at 08:59
You know, Kerrie, now I look, I see it has gone and I think I see why -- the last one on the list is "Material Witness". I think yours is next on the list and the Typepad settings have defaulted to "only showing x". Will go and fix immediately.
Yes, your spies are good -- better than this blog in fact, as I wrote up an account yesterday, pressed "spell check" and my computer crashed, so I lost the lot. Sob!
Glad to read you had such a good time away, too, Kerrie. hope you have come back with renewed crime-fic reading vigour!
