Via the Grumpy Old Bookman:
"Marilyn Saklatvala wonders whether she has found A New Way to Do Old Things no. 95, and I think she may have.
Marilyn, writing as M.J. Sak, has published a children's book via Lulu: The Stone Summons. In the book, one of the characters (Alex) writes a blog. She had hoped that a mainstream publisher might publish the book, and, as part of the marketing, ran a competition for a youngster to write Alex's blog. In the end, having to resort to Lulu, she thought what the hell, might as well write the blog myself. Which she did."
(But, from same source, please note: "How do you all feel about the Writers Digest? They are, for the sixteenth time, running a competition for self-published books. And the entry fee is $100. Well, that should keep out the riff-raff.")

I am sceptical of competitions that require a substantial entry fee. I think that sometimes they are just money-making exercises.

Yes, indeed, Clare == I think that was GOB's point, he shares your views (as do I). His blog is well visited, so I hope he's managed to save a few people a bit of hard-earned cash.
