Sometimes one receives some really rather inventive insults. This is the best I've seen for a long time, so I thought you might like it too. Rather handy for that special occasion when one is so cross that one is lost for words:
“a lack-luster pedantic me-too character based on following the stampede”.
Is this aimed at you? I'm not sure I'd be quite so sanguine.

It sounds sincere enough, but "me-too" and "following the stampede" are a little redundant. On the Knadler scale of insults, I'd rate this about a five.

Dave-who-used-to-be-a-copy-editor-at-the-Inky, is it you?
Maxine, I can't imagine anyone wanting to insult you. You are the soul of sagacity, grace, and good manners.

I certainly hope that wasn't directed at you, Maxine! It's a box of manure concealed in a civilizing overwrap - boorish behaviour.

Well, yes and no -- it was directed at me in the sense that I had to deal with it, or rather the person who felt that way, but it was about an article we had published that I had nothing to do with.
I guess I have got used to this kind of thing over the years -- try not to "let it get you down". Though Dave has now challenged me to come up with some choicer examples!
