This lovely post by Elaine made me smile. She gets up at 6 am, catches the 7.15 train to London and then kills an hour in a local cafe until starting work at 9.15.
What made me smile is that I also get up at 6 am, catch the 7.19 train to London --- but then don't kill an hour in a local cafe before starting work. (However, I do read the paper and do my 2 Sudokus, crossword and Polygon anagram puzzle on the train, mentally cursing the Ipodders, train announcers and mobilers the while for destroying my peace.) When I reach my destination (King's Cross), I buy a take-out coffee from a lovely Italian cafe/deli round the corner and drink it at my desk while my computer groans into life.
Maybe I should take a leaf out of Elaine's book and relax more. Unlikely. But I did like the fact that I can "meet" someone over the Internet and discover that our life patterns are so similar. Thank you, Elaine, for this small but convincing addition to my conviction that the Internet, and blogging in particular, is a humanising experience.
Yes please do take a leaf out of my book and instead of taking your coffee from the deli, why not sit down and drink it there instead?? I am glad you enjoyed the post and I simply love the experience of 'meeting' people with like minds in this way. I used to live near Kings Cross and worked for Camden Libraries for many years so know around there very well.

Gosh-- I can't remember the last time I saw 6am! My alarm goes off at 7 and I lie in bed for 1/2 hour thinking 'I must get up, I must get up' until I realise I've only got 20 minutes to get out the door, at which point I jump up, in & out the shower and run down to the bustop at 8 or so..

Thanks, Elaine, but I am a stressed-out workaholic with something a clinical psychologist diagnosed as "relaxation-induced anxiety".
Sian, such are the perils of living too far from where you work -- I used to be like you before I moved to Kingston. Also, Cathy and Jenny have a 40 min bus ride to get to school and Cathy does something called "early bird hockey" each day (!) so we all leave the house together at 7.

PS to Elaine, I used to live in the King's Cross/Camden area before I had my first child and moved to somewhere a bit more salubrious. I knew the Camden libraries very well, being a keen borrower in those pre-internet days, so maybe we bumped into each other more than once in reality, who knows?!
(Nowadays I am too busy to go to the library and I'm also an Amazonaholic, so I have huge piles of books to read from that source...)
