Thanks to Dave Lull for sending me a great set of book lists, now posted over at Librarian's Place. At the link is a collection of lots of "best book" lists, including the Guardian Review's top 100 books of all time, Waterstone's top 100 books of the century, and many others. The list was compiled by OCLC, the Online Computer Library Center
I regularly post many fascinating articles on Librarian's Place, almost all of them sent to me by Dave. Please do pop over there occasionally -- recent highlights include: Back to Batavia; Passionate Parochialism; John Haines' political poems; Cyberneologoliferation -- and many more on the subjects of books, libraries, reference, search, placeism and others.
Hi Maxine.
I'm a sucker for book lists. I usually check first to see how many I've read (not enough, usually) then I look to see how The Great Gatsby did. I know it's childish but I get really upset if it isn't very near the top. If it isn't even on the list it ruins my day. Actually, if it isn't on the list then the list isn't any good.

I agree, Bill, the Great Gatsby is a sublime book.

I tried leaving a trackback, but apparently the technology is beyond me today. My recent post might of interest, if you like looking through book lists:
