The Times search engine is down in a major way, so the polygon puzzle will be delayed. I didn't post anything on Petrona last night because it was Jenny's school production -- or rather the performance of it that I was attending -- and I went there straight from work. We got back quite late and spent some time together "winding down" -- it was an emotional experience for Jenny and her friends to be the "stars" of the school show after so many years of either just watching it (while in key stage 1) or having minor parts (years 3, 4 and 5). Year 6 get the speaking or singing parts, and of course there are many tears at the end as the actors are all moving on to the larger stage of secondary school.
As some readers know, Jenny was originally cast as "Merry Woman Hazel" in the show (Robin Hood in case you hadn' t guessed), which was rather disappointing for her as this part has one line. However, at the eleventh hour the teacher realised (;-) ) she hadn't cast Maid Marion's companion, and Jenny got the part. She was utterly charming throughout (not that I am biased), and had the penultimate curtain call with Friar Tuck, so was delighted and elated. Her costume: green skirt and a waistcoat of leaf design made by yours truly, with Malcolm's contribution being the eyelets in the waistcoat (a lot harder than it sounds). If you are medieval you need to have a waistcoat with strings across the front, hence the eyelets.
Now it is the weekend, but lots of domestic jobs and family activities to do, so not much opportunity for blogging, I am afraid. Tomorrow all four of us are going to see Pirates of the Caribbean 2. POTC 1 is Cathy's absolutely favourite movie in the world, she must have seen it about 30 times. The mixture of adventure and (idiotic) humour is well judged to appeal to ages from 10 (Jenny) to 150 (me). Keira Knightley has that wonderful cross-generational appeal: teenage girls, Dads (;-) ) and Mums all love her. Then there's Orlando Bloom for the girls, Johnny Depp (with beard, I trust) for the older generation who can remember the Stones....plenty of action and adventure... what more could a family want? (Don't say Superman, which has also opened in the UK this weekend).
Bye for now.
My congratulations to Jenny.

Good for Jenny! Are the girls on summer holidays now then? I hope it's a lovely, relaxing time.

Thanks for all the comments, it warms my heart!
Sadly, Susan, the girls are not on summer holidays until end of 3rd week of July, but because the head teacher of the primary school is retiring this year, they've bought forward the production a week to allow for all the various retirement parties next week.
All these end of term activities are a massive logistical challenge for the "double working parents" (who have to cope with aforementioned 6-week summer break of course), but at least I shan't have to attend the retirement bashes -- my policy is to attend only events involving my children!
